This was our first time going. It was our 5 year anniversary an 1 year of engagement and couldn't have asked for a better location. I highly recommend if you haven't tried this place you do. Also our waitress was very knowledgeable an down to heart an not scared to actually have a conversation while still doing her job. Food was amazing & the drinks as well!

Food at Mercato always great. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Last 2 visit though, they were out of bread. Dinner time they ran out of bread mid service. The restaurant was still open, still seating diners. Today was early dinnertime, 3pm - no bread. What I can not understand is how they can serve a 25$ cheese board with no crackers or bread????
I love the food from Mercato, they just need to live up to their standards and not try to cut cost on something simple and cheap as bread.

When I think of going to a place for pasta in West Chester I think of Mercato. This restaurant is one of the more pricier Italian restaurants in the area but I will always recommend people come here. Mercato is a pretty romantic restaurant but also great for families. There is a bar and plenty of outdoor seating.
During this dining experience however, we did have a few hiccups.
The menus were just printed sheets of paper with stains from previous usage. It just was honestly gross to think about.
Our waiter was very formal and well versed. I appreciated how thorough he was. The runners kept our table clean and cleared throughout every dish.
We were given table bread and a side of marinara sauce. The sauce, while very tasty, was pretty cold. The bread was delicious!
We ordered a caesar salad and the short rib ragu for appetizer. The salad was delicious! The dressing ratio has a little more anchovy than preferred but nonetheless still really good! On the other hand the short rib was MOUTH WATERING! Cooked to perfection it melted in your mouth and the ragu was perfectly seasoned. I could have gone without the hard block of gorgonzola polenta. The edges were rock hard and the inside was soggy. I have no idea what the white topping was on the short rib but it did not melt into the meal. I could have gone without that as well.
The entrees saved the night! We ordered the fettuccini mercato and the penne vodka. They are our typical go-tos and I absolutely recommend people give it a try! I found myself stealing bites of the penne vodka. The tomatoes in the fettuccini mercato dish were not soggy and the peas added that pop of freshness to the dish. The best part about their penne vodka is that they add prosciutto and who does not love that?! The portions are pretty big so prepare to take some home. Thankfully the pasta always heats up well next day just mildly greasy is all.
I will say though, that the to-go boxes they give will not hold up well in the fridge. Be sure to switch your leftovers into some Tupperware. I am very happy they are being considerate about the environment by cutting down on plastic to go bowls.
I am hopeful that our next visit will be much better.

We got dinner at Mercato and really loved the outdoor seating. The wait staff was courteous and the menu was super expansive! Most of the food was absolutely delicious, but there were a few items we did not enjoy.
The crab cakes were beautiful but… sour? Definitely not a flavor I would seek out in a crab cake. Nothing in the description included a lemon or citrus element, so that made us feel like something went bad.
Also, the sangria tasted more like a light beer than a sangria. There was no real fruit or wine flavor- it seems like someone poured a beer and added ice and strawberries? Very odd.
Overall, for the price, I would like the food and drinks to taste more like what they are advertised as. But the ambiance and the rest of the food was great!

Street parking.
A little overpriced.
I ordered a $16 cheese pizza. It came without sauce. This a traditional Italian made pizza.
The manager was very personable.
The bartender was nice

I hardly ever leave a review but I felt like I needed to after my experience. We had a party of 21 people where Tommy was our one and only waiter. He was phenomenal. Every drink was served timely. He was so attentive and so personable. I cannot say enough about his level of service. You just don’t find that level of service any more. Thank you Tommy and Mercato for making my sons graduation party a very enjoyable afternoon!

We had a wonderful Valentine’s Day at Mercato! We drove about 35 minutes to dine here because we had read such good things ☺️ We enjoyed our drinks, appetizers & entrees so much! Very extensive menu with options for everyone. Our waiter and overall wait staff were very polite and on top of everything! Also important to mention we felt very safe as COVID precautions were visibly taken into consideration. Can’t wait to dine here again!

Fourth time visiting this restaurant. Great food. Excellent service. Poor management. Don’t take reservations if you’re going to make people wait 50 minutes to get a table. It’s wrong. I would go back again maybe on a Monday or Tuesday night when it’s not as busy, but never again on a weekend. Or maybe not at all. Haven’t decided yet.

NEGATIVE! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME going to eat at MERCATO. The food is not worth the price, the owner is just downright rude, and the ambiance is uptight. NO GO!!!

Horrible experience with the staff and owner. The owner(s) treat their customers like crap. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY here!
There are many more options in west chester where the staff treat their customers with respect. You won't get it at Mercato.

A very rude and obnoxious owner/manager who decided to up the price of a pre-booked luncheon in his restaurant on the morning of the event! The luncheon was being held to thank the volunteers who help at a non-profit organization in West Chester. This man has no understanding of community, charity or manners. Mercato has lost many future customers today.

Went for lunch, service was good, girls are sweet but it was hot out and they brought us warm water, no ice, the food was overpriced and not good. They need to revamp themselves, if your gonna charge $$ you better offer quality food! Not worth it.

Fantastic New Restaurant in WEST CHESTER ~~Italian~~ Wine Bar. This place is absolutely gorgeous. We were walking by and noticed there was a new restaurant in town. We didn't have a reservation, but waited 15 minutes for a seat (it was a thursday night), The adorable waiter recommended sharing the brick oven pizza for a starter, home run! we each order the specials for the evening, and every one was in agreement, this is what west chester needed, a beautuful, reasonably priced restaurant, that's not in a time warp! Bravo Mercato, you nailed it on all levels.

Practically Insulting. I took my girlfriend here for Valentine's Day and the result was so poor it was embarassing, The service was fine, but my girlfriend got a $30 plate of lobster ravioli that couldn't fill my 4 year old niece. I understand lobster is pricey, but the sad part was the 6 quarter-sized raviolis that made up the majority of the plate. I had a steak that was OKAY, and it was also accompanied by maybe a bite's worth of mashed potatoes and about three spears of asparagus. The meal was a total waste of $100 as both my girlfriend and I left hungry and there is no way I will ever be going back there again. Fortunately, our night was saved by the new gelato place across the street which is phenomenal and also friendly. Judged off of what I have heard from other people regarding Mercato as well, I don't think it will be there too long. Good luck!

Disappointing!!!. The meal and wine was way overpriced for the quality. Appetizers (Crostini) was served on soggy, untoasted bread and my husband's Arancini was RAW. I make this dish quite often myself and the rice is supposed to be al dente, but this again was totally raw. We were STARVING and did not even come close to finishing the appetizers.

Entree's were better, but that wasn't a large feat given the terrible apps, however still nothing to go back for. We went there on a Saturday night and the place was empty. Should have known just by that. Such a disappointment, WC can really use a good go to spot.

West Chester Mercato. The first time we went to Mercato, my husband left being very unhappy with the service...saying that he would not return. He also didn't like the fact that anchovies were not part of the Caesar salad, service was so slow and it seemed to be disorganized. I did enjoy my meal and understood that they still were trying to "iron out the kinks". So I talked my husband into going back last night....BIG MISTAKE! I ordered the burrato salad with beets and pistachios. and I asked for some lettuce to be added to it (this would be my main meal). The salad was served without the pistachios (the waiter said they were taken off the menu, but they failed to take it off the written menu---very misleading!!).
When the bill came we were charged $6.00 for that little bit of lettuce and no compensation for the absence of pistachios, making it an $18.00 salad----so NOT worth it! We were also told that they do serve anchovies on the caesar salad. We did not appreciate the attitude of both the server and the owner who never even came over to discuss our displeasure. If our patronage means that little to him, we will never be returning there again.

Disappointing and overpriced.. We came in for a few snacks and drinks. The food was ok - nothing too exciting The drinks were unreasonably expensive - and to top off we were charged for three more drinks than we had. Won't rush back.

The owner was plan offensive. I went there on a Wednesday with friends knowing new restaurants can have issues in the beginning some times. As I was hoping, the place was 1/3 full so I was expecting favorable conditions.

In a party of four (2 couples) we decided to each split a salad and a pasta and then move on to the main entrée.

The salads didn't come for 40 minutes! I split the eggplant salad and felt it was ok. Nothing really special but it had a nice yellow bell pepper reduction adding an interesting flavor.

More waiting............ Couple next to us got served their entire dinner...........More waiting..........

Our pasta, a linguini with clams (which was supposed to be split) came out on one plate with a tiny little fork (not two). At this point I was a little miffed. I let my temper get the better of me and I sent it back to be put on two plates.
The waitress kindly obliged.

We it came back, the presentation was fine, however, I found the clams tough and gritty! Obviously over cooked and under a heat lamp for some time, but I didn't expect the grit!

This whole time, the owner is across the room drinking at a small table set up to the open kitchen and talking on his cell phone. While he was obviously the active "manager", however, I never once saw him offer direction to his staff or visit a table or show any real interest in his surroundings.

The pork dish I ordered came (faster this time as the wait staff realized I was upset and sent the message back to the kitchen). However, still no interest in any table by the owner.

The dish was again over done and tough as an old boot. While pork can dry easily this was REALLY disappointing. The smoked cheese over the top was over powering, not complimentary to the meat and the "schnitzel" like cut of pork was wafer thin but still required effort to cut.

At this point I felt it necessary to introduce myself to the owner and offer some constructive criticism. When I politely explained my displeasure, he became hostile and irate. He said if I didn't like the food then I shouldn't come back and he didn't need people like me telling him what they liked or didn't like. I have never been so embarrassed or insulted in my life. I dine in a lot of fine restaurants and I never expected an "active" manager or owner would treat any customer in such a fashion.......This "gentleman" doesn't deserve your business.

Sorry but my experience suggests Mercato should BE AVOIDED AT ALL COSTS, go to subway, at least they are polite there.

The Good the Bad, but nothing is Ugly. Dinner with my wife. Interior is very clean looking, with woods predominating, good lighting well-spaced. Our waiter really, really, wanted to be helpful, admitting that he was new at the game, since the restaurant was only opened a couple of weeks ago. We thought he was charming. Came in at 6:00 pm on a Tuesday, the place had a line by the time we left. Food very good throughout.

Wine menu overpriced for the selection. $39 a bottle across the board. We chose an Italian Primitivo from Puglia (we know Italian wines because I worked in Rome and Milano as a banker). Alfredo wandered by and stated that this wine was a great buy for the price. The wine was very good, but $8.97 in the wine store - thanks Alfredo. Alfredo is a good talker, as we found out that evening, and has an answer for everything: you have gluten-free pasta and pizza dough at your other restaurants - why not here?. " I am not happy with the quality of the gluten free in my other restaurants, I am looking for something else." OK, Alberto, what about your current customers in your other places?
Having lived in Italy, we know how everything works. But, good food, good atmosphere, you cannot go wrong, unless you want gluten free for medical reasons.
