Pacifique is located right across from Fig & Olive and just a couple blocks up from Barton G., on La Cienega Boulevard. Serving up California French cuisine with "Japanese-Asian" inspired food with an emphasis on local seafood. Though, the four dishes that I dined on that night were more California French and local seafood than "Japanese-Asian" inspired.
Course 1: Market Lettuce Salad, which consisted of lettuce, radishes and herbs, dressed in a red wine vinaigrette. A simple and classic dish, yet refreshing and wholesome. The portion was pretty generous, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The lettuce was crisp and buttery but wished that some pieces were chopped a little smaller. The radishes were excellent (my favorite) - thinly sliced and crunchy. The herbs and red wine vinaigrette completed the overall taste and texture. I loved that the salad wasn't overly drenched with the red wine vinaigrette and rather tasting tangy and/or acidic, it actually tasted salty, which I liked.
Course 2: Tuna Tartare served with Belgian endives. A lovely, finger food presentation. The Belgian endives were perfect for scooping up, holding up the tuna tartare and you can taste the chicory flavor coming through when eating it. The tuna tartare itself was mixed with mustard pickle, a quail egg and garnished with chives. It tasted light, mild and gentle as opposed to the Market Salad, which tasted saltier.
Course 3: Ruby Trout Amandine: Pan-seared trout cooked with brown butter and garnished with almond slices. Served with roasted purple and yellow cauliflowers. The trout itself was flaky and tender but lacked the wow punch with the brown butter sauce. The almond slices tasted good with the fillet. The skin underneath was crisp and flavorful, which I think the brown butter sauce absorbed the most into. The roasted purple and yellow cauliflowers tasted alright but looked really flimsy. I may not get this one again.
Course 4: Coconut Panna Cotta - dessert time! After chatting with Joshua (Manager), he had mentioned to me that the panna cotta is the most favorite and photographed dessert here at Pacifique. I absolutely have no doubts about that. The coconut panna cotta tasted silky, creamy and refreshing. The greyish/blue layer above the panna cotta is the fleur de sel (fine, flower of salt texture) and topped with bee pollen. When combined all three flavors together, you get this delicious, melts-in-your-mouth explosion of coconut creaminess, saltiness and tiny little bursts of powdery honey, a delightful finish.
Service: Upon entrance, I was greeted by their hostess and Joshua (Floor Manager). Afterwards, I was immediately seated at my table. Tyler was my main server and he was courteous, polite and professional as was the rest of the servers that night. I appreciated the attentiveness and distance they kept while I was enjoying my meal. Best of all, I didn't feel rushed and I really appreciated that. I even got a kick out of Tyler's compliment when he said that I was a "clean eater," when he was attempting to wiping down any spills before my dessert arrived (what can I say, I'm pretty meticulous when dissecting, deciphering and savoring my food and drink, lol!). After dinner, Joshua stopped by my table and chit-chatted with me before I left. Upon leaving, I was bid goodbye by the hostess and Tyler. Sweet service!
Ambience and Décor: First and foremost, if you're dining here for dinner, it's pretty dimly lit. I do see some patrons turning on their camera phone lights. Picture taking, it's hit and miss, depending on how good your camera phone is. Yes, it's definitely romantic and intimate. A gorgeous, plush and luxurious interior with Geisha printed-portraits along the walls and inside the gender-neutral restrooms. Chilled vibes, great for date night or a lovely dinner with family and/or friends. The gender-neutral restrooms are clean, nicely stocked and well-maintained.
Overall, I enjoyed my first dinner here and wouldn't mind coming back again, especially, to try out their Happy Hour, brunch and/or DineLA. Merci, Pacifique!
