Reviews Roots Cafe

It’s not too often that I’ll fall in love with a place so much that I write a review before I even leave, but this spot has done that for me! It’s a fluke that I ended up here, driving 20 minutes out of my way, because after being in downtown Portland for an appointment, I was excited to try a new place for breakfast. Upon walking a few blocks, I finally found a business whose “masks mandated” sign said it was due to the city of Portland requiring it... again. OK, looks like I’ve got to get out of the city because I don’t spend my money at businesses that push their misguided “health” ideals upon me. I did a quick search in Westbrook, and Roots was one of the first cafes to pop up. Lucky me! Not only do they let us be free to share positive vibes by SMILING at each other, they serve only organic coffees, make their food from scratch, and all their pastries are gluten free for those who need it. It’s a nicely designed, somewhat large cafe, which seems to be associated with a church next door, but I don’t mind that, even though I’m not religious myself. They’re all about spreading love here! Even their salt and pepper shakers do! I will gladly come out of my way again to visit Roots when coming to the Portland area!

This place is amazing. If you need a great cup of coffee, they got it! Are you a working professional who likes to work in a coffee shop? They accomadate! There are high tops for individuals. Place is gorgeous, with a good size patio, and the staff is so friendly and welcoming, it really invites you to come again and again! Food is really good, and they have many healthy options. I really can't recommend this place enough.

My daughter, who has Celiac Disease, breathed a sigh of relief just walking into Roots Cafe. She was SO happy to have a place where she can eat ANYTHING on the menu - plus you can't even tell that the food is GF - SO DELICIOUS! 😃 ☕ 🧁- We came in for breakfast 2 mornings in a row while we were in town. The place is so clean, and love all the wood and decor of this place. Wish they had a Roots Cafe in Chicago!

Wow, I'll absolutely be back. Food was excellent, coffee was SUPERB, and service was fast, pleasant, and clean even on a busy Saturday morning. They didn't stop me from having my dog on the patio, but there's a dog park around the corner if that's a problem. The shop ethos is lovely, and the lending library next door is wonderful, too!

Wow! We had a vanilla latte and a caramel latte... Some of the best lattes we've ever had! We had a slight mixup where our lattes came out next to a wrap that looked like what i had ordered, so we grabbed it but then later realized it was another customer's 😩. Staff was super understanding and it ended up being the tastiest breakfast that I've had in weeks. Not sure exactly what the menu item was that ate, but it was extremely filling. Cafe had a great vibe, plenty of seating, not too crowded or packed. We wish we would've discovered this place earlier during our trip to Maine, but now we know for next time to skip Starbucks/Dunkin and come to Roots Cafe.
