We stopped in on Saturday and the food was excellent! New building (I assume smaller than the original) but the service was friendly and the atmosphere was down home like being in a friends home. My wife and I shared a 3 meat plate of brisket and double ribs. The brisket was tender and smoked like Texas beef should be. The ribs were tender and had an excellent texture not falling off the bone like some mistakenly think is how they should be. My son has the half chicken plate and he said it was the best he has had! My daughter is a connoisseur of fine hamburgers and this one was top notched and the fries were as well. We did save room for the homemade Coconut Cream Pie and everyone loved it! I tried to get my wife to let me get one to bring with us but she reminded me that we were on our way to Spring Break and not headed home!

First time visitor; recommended by two co-workers. I must say - I have spent 27 years in the military; have traveled the world; ate BBQ from all over the US; Hinze's will hold its own with the best! Great food, great price! WELL DONE!!!

Of course I love Hinze’s bar-b-que. I grew up living next to the Hinze family. I remember the day in their backyard barbecuing when Mrs. Hinze said to Mr. Hinze “maybe we should open a barbecue place” and the result was the Barbecue Hut behind the Dairy Freeze. When they opened on the highway, I was one of their first cooks while I was in High School. What a great family and nothing tastes as good as Hinze’s Bar-B-Que.

Was in Wharton from Galveston for a bday party and we stopped by for lunch on the way. Wow is all I can really say. You know the place is good when the locals pack it in after church but I wasn't prepared for melt in your mouth barbecue and homemade macaroni that makes you look back in the kitchen to see if your grandmother had rose up from the dead to make you lunch and no one told you.

Hinze's Bar-B-Que is a pretty small local BBQ joint. The food is decent and it's affordable. It's not the best BBQ I've had (having traveled all over Texas and most of the southern United States) but it's certainly not bad at all. I had the brisket, sausage, green beans, and Mac n' cheese. I think that's a pretty decent spread to be able to judge based on. It was all decently good, I'll come back during my stay and try out the chicken and pork! My critiques are as follows: The meat didn't come out as hot as I'd have liked. Like any BBQ place, everything is prepped beforehand, it just wasn't heated up much. The sausage was a bit lean, and it lacked that juiciness you might be accustomed to with smoked sausage. Their BBQ sauce stood out to me, I did enjoy its flavor. It's just a shame I felt the need to use it on the brisket.

Food was great and very flavorful. The price was great and the workers were friendly. The prices were reasonable especially for the amount of food you got. We got a slice of pecan pie… very delicious. Highly recommend.

Got a 3 meat plate for my self Brisket portions were a bit on the meager side I would say it was maybe a 1/16th lb of brisket. Got brisket 2 ribs and some sausage. Sides were Mac and cheese it was good and cheesy Pinto beans then were delicious Corn was fresh and delicious BBQ sauce was bit more on the pastey tomatoe side. Not my cup of tea but not bad. Service was quick staff was nice. Over all its good.

If you're looking for authentic Texas barbecue, Hinze's Bar-B-Que in Wharton is the place to go. Established in 1973, this restaurant has been serving up some of the finest barbecue in the state for almost half a century. As a Texan, I take my barbecue seriously, and I can say without hesitation that Hinze's is a true Texas staple. I never fully appreciated it until I was away from Texas and had to settle for subpar barbecue. But coming back here, I feel proud to call myself a Texan. Hinze's menu is packed with down-home BBQ and southern dishes that will leave you feeling satisfied and content. From country-fried steaks to homemade pies, they serve up all the classic dishes you would expect from a Texas barbecue joint. But what really sets Hinze's apart is the quality of their barbecue. The meat is slow-cooked to perfection, and the flavors are rich and smoky. Whether you're in the mood for brisket, ribs, or sausage, they've got you covered. Unfortunately, Hinze's suffered a fire that destroyed their original location. But they have bounced back and are now serving customers at their new location. And let me tell you, the food is just as good as ever. If you're in the area and looking for some top-notch barbecue, do yourself a favor and check out Hinze's Bar-B-Que. You won't be disappointed.

Very popular with the locals at lunchtime, always a good sign. I got the sliced beef sandwich, fries, and a drink…everything ala carte…total about $14. I used to think that was pricey but that’s the world we live in these days. It was delicious and portions were ample. I thought maybe the fries were a bit small at first but the sandwich is big enough that the fries were right. The staff was friendly and the crowd filled the place, although I had no trouble finding a table for one. It’s very small town-y, in a good way. Unpretentious. I was just passing through but if I lived nearby it would be a favorite place.

So different from the old location. It's pretty worn-looking from the outside. The inside is ... unpretentious. I gave the rating only for the stuffed baked potato with turkey as I didn't eat anything else. It was served with bbq sauce on the side and it was delicious! I was able to get two meals from it.

I stopped on a road trip because my great grandmother was a fan and frequent customer in the 70's and 80's. I was not at all disappointed, the sliced beef sandwich made it worth the drove from Huntsville to Wharton.

This family run restaurant serves the best food. It is just a small building with a drive up and only a few tables to sit, seat yourself after ordering, but it moves food fast! I counted 7 cooks in the small kitchen, moving in determined directions. my wife and I had the huge stuffed baked potato, stuffed with barbequed brisket. The thing was huge, and so delicious. Wife ordered the pecan pie. What can I say, this is TEXAS. My daughter ordered the lemon merangue pie. Super. The prices are reasonable and the people are friendly. I highly recommend it for barbeque.

What more can I say about Heinze’s? If you’re within 30 miles of Wharton, you really need to visit. I’m pretty sure everything on the menu is amazing, but save room for pie.

Stopped through on the way to el campo for a camping trip. Best ribs I have had in a very long time. They have been open since 1970. Worth the stop if you are passing through.
