My favorite taqueria East of San Antonio. Their food is authentic, delicious, and a decent price. A little hard to find but definitely worth the effort. Tacos de Lengua are my favorite!
I eat there every time I’m in Wilmington it’s the place to go if u like real authentic Mexican food!!!!
The only taqueria outside of San Antonio, TX that actually tastes like tacos should. It's not flashy or lavishly decorated like some of the other Mexican restaurants in town, but the food made me a loyal customer while I lived in Wilmington.
Best authentic Mexican food in Wilmington. I love the taco bar and la tienda! I will never go to an Americanized Mexican Restaraunt after eating Los Portales!
I tell u if u want real authentic Mexican food, this is the place. This is an amazing place & I'm hooked since the first day I walked in
One of the best and biggest tortas I've ever had! Salsa bar was fresh and delicious! Will be back soon for pazole!
The Huaraches con pastor was SUPER FRESH. Fresh salsa, cilantro and cucumbers on the taco toppings bar.
The homemade tortillas were outstanding.
5 star place.
Amazing food, good prices. The salsa selection was great.
Riquisimos tacos y tortas !Me encantan sus salsas con autentico sabor mexicano...!
Amazing food! Authentic and delicious. Quick, polite service.
My favorite place to come when I come visit my brother
Always amazing food great portions wonderful flavor and affordable pricing. Staff are always pleasant and friendly. This is now the only Mexican restaurant we go to in Wilmington as nothing else can compare
AUTHENTIC! I’m from Texas and in most of the country, cities north and east of Texas. Mexican food is really TexMex. That being said, in Texas we have both so I know the difference very well. My “go to” meal when I had a long night and I’m feeling it in the morning is Menudo and crispy Tripa tacos. A real Mexican home cooked meal. Im not saying it’s the best I ever had, but I was pleasantly surprised that it was as delicious as it was.

It is hard to find authentic Mexican food this far from Mexico but I think this is an easy exception to that rule.
There is seating, but I chose to take out. Small language barrier perhaps but definitely worth the culture shock. The food is above and beyond your average taco spot. Be warned the entrance doesn't have a lot of room for lines so you might have to stand outside I'm all waiting to order. Don't let that stop you, this place is fantastic!
Definitely authentic Mexican food. The salsa wasn't clearly labeled & I would've been better off eating magma. Atmosphere could be better & service was a little slow, even though there weren't many customers there. Food is really really good though & very reasonable prices! Will go back! Just be cautious of the salsas. 🔥
The place, if I recall it was a bit of a hole in the wall. I went with two other white guys and we were the only white folk in the joint, I knew we were in the right spot. It seemed pretty authentic..the food was great. My friends were hesitant, but glad we ate there.
Los portales is the best place in Wilmington for tacos. I have been to a lot of taquerias but this one takes the cake. Their service is fast, the food is amazing, and I love the outdoor seating. And the horchata is delicious too
Very authentic. Very spicy but very good. The language barrier was hard but entertaining. They can cook but don't speak to good of English. Very kind people working their though.
Very good real Mexican food! Everything was well put together, served hot and very filling. I enjoy their tortas and tacos. This is not your typical "authentic mexican food" place, this is motherland quality food. So don't expect to come in here and have chips and fake salsa served. Their food always comes out with top notch flavor. Their dressing station is also nicely maintained with choices of 4 different salsas, cut up radishes, onions, cilantro and other toppings. Their prices are not steep either.
Overall this location is not very attractive or easily seen, however there is two access points to the parking lot. One off of Kerry and the other I'd off of south college. There are two other locations across wilmington. NC. The OTHER location off of Sigmon and market, near the midtown Walmart is better aesthetically.
The food here is very flavorful and authentic. I would say it's one of the best Hispanic lunch/dinner spots on town. I do prefer LA Costa Mexican restaurants but flavor wise TAQUERIA LOS PORTALES is number one in my book. Also cost wise. The over meal cost is less than the other Mexican restaurants in town .
My family and friends stopped by here for a quick bite to eat. You enter and order you food before you take a seat. Staff was friendly and the food was amazing!!! I would say this has been the best authentic Mexican food I have ever ate.
Bathrooms were a little dirty. Very little sanitization was done while we were in the restaurant based on what we observed.
Love the authentic food and the food bar is amazing and many sauce options but they got my order wrong
Actually authentic Mexican. Great steak tacos. Beer, margaritas and horchata! Highly recommend.
Los Portales, not just has exceptional service but exceptional seasoning! The tacos, quesadillas, and burritos are bomb. I love the consistent of flavor and service. The workers are so hard working and always whipping up the food quickly. Definitely one the of the best spots for authentic Mexican food in town !
Food was great and very authentic. The atmosphere was not bad but speaking Spanish would help you when visiting this establishment.
we went there this past Saturday because we were craving tacos, very nice atmosphere, you order up at the front and they make your food pretty quickly, the different meats were excellent. I highly recommend this place for great food!!!
This is a very tasty stop for all your Mexican food desires. We tried the Quesadilla with Barbacoa and the Fajita Quesadilla. You order at the counter, then prep your condiments at their self-service salsa bar and wait for the tastiness to arrive. Quick, hot and oh so delicious. Definitely worth a stop while vacationing in the area.
The most authentic Mexican food i ever had. The fish tacos are a MUST. so fresh and consistently good every time. A must if you’re in Wilmington!
