A must stay while traveling in Maine. Very lovely inn. Quiet and free light breakfast. We stayed at Maude room, it’s a bit small but the entire inn is like a historical house. So much to explore, indoor and outdoor. I would come back to stay next my trip because I can’t find anything is cuter than this place.
The owner has done a great job updating this 1763 inn. It is at the same time historic and modern. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, with simple, interesting detail. We had a delicious breakfast each morning on the deck overlooking the garden and pond below. Lisa and her team provide suggestions for restaurants, nature walks, a nearby brewery - they are terrific hosts.
The Squire Tarbox Inn is a lovely getaway. The inn is cozy, clean, peaceful, and surrounded by nature. The inn is very thoughtfully curated and designed. My partner and I booked one night, and wish we booked more!
The inn has a walking path down to a marsh where we spotted a few eagles. A really special retreat, with all the amenities.
Highly recommend if you’re looking for a peaceful getaway. Looking forward to returning again in the future!
This is a very quaint little B&B located in an off the beaten path location in rural Maine. While different, it offers a unique charm that is lost in some of the larger hotel chains that you might normally visit. The rooms are each unique and the ambiance is restful. The breakfast was absolutely delicious which we ate while enjoying the beauty of nature. Our only regret was that we only got to stay there one night. Go off the beaten path, you will thank yourself for the visit.
Beautiful historic inn on quiet Westport island - Lisa and team have done a wonderful job with the property which has been renovated and outfitted with thoughtful details for a comfortable, relaxing stay. There were suggestions for local activities (yoga at an alpaca farm, nature walks, restaurants), a stocked kitchen area with coffee, tea, local beer and wine and more, a homemade breakfast in the morning and even a live music event at the barn on Saturday night. My mom and I spent mornings and evenings on the back deck overlooking the gardens just enjoying the nature and chatting with Lisa (the owner) who was the cherry on top to a perfect weekend. Can’t wait for our next stay!
My wife and I stumbled across the Inn looking for a getaway after our sons graduation. What a find this was! We originally intended to just stay for a night, but it turned into 3 because the the place was just so comfortable and relaxing. The grounds are expansive and well maintained, great for a walk down to the water or just resting your eyes on from the terrace over a glass of wine. The rooms are all beautifully furnished and bathrooms totally updated. The decor throughout the Inn is charming and all the details are all so interesting. Lots of rooms to sit in and a wonderful old barn that is fully renovated.
The only quibble I had was that there were no restaurants on the island. The place was so relaxing that we didnt want to leave, but ended up doing so for dinner (only about 15 minutes drive). (of course, they do serve a very nice breakfast.)
Absolutely beautiful place with impeccable attention to detail. Very historic and a delicious breakfast and easy self check in as there really is limited staff on site, which was not a problem for us. Loved our stay!

We were so lucky to have found this spot and have room available for 3 adults on our east coast trip. Beautiful place to relax. Very reminiscent of Muskoka area in Ontario Canada. Fall would be amazing time to visit as well!
This was the last stop my sister and I made on our trip out to Maine, and we both were so pleased to end the trip on the highest of notes. This inn is absolutely beautiful and has so much historic charm. It is easily one of the more unique places we have stayed, as the old historic house and attached barn have been lovingly restored and maintained with very interesting furnishings. It is also immaculately clean! Staff were warm and welcoming, and left small notes throughout the many common areas to assist with finding and using amenities. The rooms were adorable, and the beds very comfortable. Breakfast was made by an in house chef, and was delicious! Staff also left adorable Halloween themed treats for us to snack on, as our stay coincided with Halloween. The grounds were extensive and well kept, and were so much fun to explore after breakfast. We were sad to go, and thank the staff for the best of stays! -Jenny
Beautiful, picturesque, peaceful property, with lovely flower beds, trees and a nice path to the water through the woods. Indoor & outdoor options for enjoying the delicious breakfast. Very tasteful decor in the sitting rooms
This very unique inn was a nice quiet place to spend the weekend visiting the area. We loved the cozy room with the extra beds in the loft area. The staff accommodated our dietary needs nicely with lovely breakfasts.
What an incredible place! It’s clear that it’s been renovated with every thought to creature comforts as well as design. The bedding was perfect, the furniture gorgeous AND comfy cozy, the decor a perfect marriage of modern and antique. The “quick breakfasts” turned out to be a French toast apple bake with bacon one morning and cheesy eggs on toast with coffee cake the next morning. Coffee and tea available all the time, as well as for purchase wine, beer and snacks. Wine/cocktail/water glasses and carafes were a great touch. No plastic waste in the rooms - hand soap and shower toiletries were in refillable glass pump bottles. And everything was absolutely spotless. The land is gorg - we took a walk after breakfast through the woods, down to the water and saw 4! bald eagles. Truly can’t say enough good things about the Tarbox!!
We had a fabulous time at the Squire Tarbox Inn. Gorgeous picturesque setting, comfortable and cozy sleeping quarters, rustic and elegant common areas and our delicious quiche and scones, we're all amazing touches that made us feel special during our stay. We had the Mary Margaret room and it was so beautifully put together with the fluffiest pillows and softest sheets. The shower was nice and hot and the air conditioning was nice and cool! The grounds were beautiful and natural and the chickens and goats were adorable. The staff were all pleasant and professional. We I'll be recommending this magical place to others.
I stayed here with my mother and grandmother and we were immediately in awe and absolutely enchanted by the view the old buildings and all that was provided during our stay! Our room was amazing and we absolutely loved the design and overall rustic vibe, the beds are especially cozy and we all slept like a log! The service here is helpful and friendly despite being a bit low on staff, these people really are excelling at their services in these difficult times for businesses, ESPECIALLY for inns! Despite the pandemic I felt very comfortable and safe when seeing how clean our room and the overall grounds/common rooms were! I know there are many disadvantages regarding old buildings in general but right from the start of our visit you can clearly see they make sure these buildings remain preserved and safe as well as going above and beyond to put their guests first!! They are very conscious of health and safety and I don’t think we could be in better hands anywhere else!
Thank you for the amazing stay! It was so relaxing and we’ll be recommending it to friends and family in New Hampshire if they find themselves up in Maine during their vacation!

Absolutely wonderful, though too brief, stay. Room was historic with modern fixtures and a comfortable bed, the commons rooms were beautifully, tastefully decorated, and the grounds provided for lovely walks, and visits with the resident goats and chickens. Tasty breakfast box and excellent coffee completed the stay. Only some rooms are dog friendly, but they love the dogs that stay. Already planning a return for a longer visit.
The rooms are exceptionally cozy, well appointed, and comfortable. I don't know if I have ever slept in a bed this delightful at a hotel. And even more than the individual rooms, the common areas are inviting, enjoyable, and welcoming. At the Squire Tarbox, breakfast was my favorite part of every day. Gathering with the other guests and savoring coffee on the porch while eating well-made breakfast was time well spent.
Our stay at Squire Tarbox Inn was exactly what we expected. It was the absolute perfect getaway. The rich history of the inn was charming. They had luxury touches in bedding and linens which was great treat. The inn's interiors were so well thought out and executed. The tranquility of the grounds made it a relaxing get away to unplug and recharge. I'm a huge fan of the old homes, owning a early 1900's house ourselves, we love the naturalness the inn offers. Staff was friendly, attentive and immediately addressed any issues that arose during our stay. We will definitely be back to Maine and this is our number one spot to visit :) Thanks again Jessica for making our stay so increible.
Wonderful and unique inn, great location (near mid-coast Maine sites but off the beaten track), great owner and staff, highest recommendation. We'll be back.
