Review Lone Star Ranch House - Yakima

Tamara Chance
Called prior, and asked what time they served prime rib, they stated 4pm on Fridays. We arrived a little after 4pm, there was one other car in the parking lot. They stated their prime rib wouldn't be ready for at the least another hour...after 5pm. Could of let that go. However, the man was so ill mannered about it. We were discussing what we were going to do. When he stated with a disrespectful attitude and tone, we have other steaks, and then walked away from us. Leaving us standing there??... We left, and went to Apple Tree, had a fantastic prime rib meal, we were treated with the up most respect, and our meal was completed by 5pm.

The service is great, family owned, friendly, decorated beautifully with cozy cabin feel. The Chicken Alfredo (pictured) is 10/10!

Best prime rib I have had! The family and I went on Thanksgiving to break from cooking this year. Our reservation was right on time. The food was awesome. The service is awesome. And just the overall warm, inviting, comfortable feel reflected at The Lone Star made for a fantastic experience. The location comes across as a bit of a drive for this area but is not at all. Just a few minutes. Highly recommend visiting The Lone Star Ranch House.

It was celebration dinner for my daughter. She needed to have a great day for her Birthday and she did. We all enjoyed our meals, four had steaks and one had chicken fried steak breakfast plate. Great service, wonderful evening.

We drive the distance. The prime rib is amazing..but our most favorite is their gizzards, which I know are most people's yuck! But let me tell you if it's something you've been wanting to try, you will not find any place that makes them better. They melt in your mouth. Our service has always been great, and the owners wife even goes around and visits with the customers. Making sure you get a good dining experience.

My wife and went to dinner there for mothers day. The service was not good at all we had to remind the waitress 3 times for our salads there was 3 other couples besides our us in there. Our main dish was not good I ordered some extra butter that I never got. We had to ask twice for refills on our drinks. I cant see how they could possibly have a 4.5 star rating I would give them 2 stars. This is the 2nd time in 6 months we have been there and both times were not good at all.

The food was amazing, my prime rib was cooked to perfection and the apple fritter was to die for! Our server was the owner, she was so kind and truly has a love for her business! I'm thankful to have found a steak restaurant worth going to! I will be back very soon!

If I could give them 10 stars I would. They're some of the most friendly and caring people you'll ever meet! The food is great too! We never had to ask for anything there was always someone asking if we needed a refill. When we left 1 waitress got us boxes another helped us bag our food. My husband had New York steak, my daughter had fish and chips while my other daughter and I had penne Alfredo. Steak was cooked perfectly! We traded bites with each other. So so good breading in fish is flaky chips are well seasoned, Alfredo sauce is better than Olive Garden and they add veggies to it. We've ate here several times not once had a bad experience. The owner Ruby is very up beat always makes you smile. Cathie had our server got our daughters laughing and made them feel at home. ♡ this place!

We had a birthday breakfast for my sister......I'm in serious love with biscuits and gravy. I'm pleased to say that the gravy was sausage gravy, and very good. Only one problem I can report.........The servings are HUGE .....very good, but so much more than I could eat. And I can eat some biscuits and gravy. The only thing I love more than good biscuit gravy is pie, but I left at least one biscuit on my plate. We will definitely go for breakfast again!

I actually liked this place till tonight I had earwigs in my silverware 2 of them to be exact I could see there droppings in my napkin they have there silver ware in ..... and when I brought it to there attention they said oh it's west Valley it's unavoidable and said they'd bring me new silverware but I had to ask them for it its like since I found earwigs in there silverware they avoided my table they were really distant and when they came around I asked for a refill they didn't show me attention I had get up and go to them and ask plus they messed up my girlfriends meal there not perfessional at all... I wouldn't recommend it all

FaceBook wouldn't let me post this review without choosing a star. Therefore, I chose one as being the lowest of the low. But sorry, a zero star is still much too high of a rating for the rudeness of the owner (Shawn Armijo) towards my wife. We were seated at a table, but because my wife has a disability and had brought her service dog into the restaurant the owner refused us service while it was in his premises. Even though we told him he was breaking the law, he stated he could read and knew the law (not) and didn't care to see any of the disability/service dog documentation my wife had. Basically it was no dog or no service. We had the choices of; taking the dog to the car, calling the county sheriff and wait until he came to tell the owner how stupid he was that we were right and then stay and eat OR leave. We took the high road by leaving and had a much nicer dinner at another restaurant - that went out of their way to make us feel very welcome - What a difference. Needless to say, we will not recommend anyone to dine there - ever. If asked, we will discourage anyone heading through Ahtanum to stop there.

I eat here often. I have never been disappointed. The food is absolutely delicious, the atmosphere is warm, welcoming and the staff is friendly. This is definitely one of my favorite places to eat.

Not good. Fish and chips tasted like it was cooked in old oil, and my husbands prime rib looked and tasted like it was cooked awhile ago and just warmed up. not worth the drive or money spent on a rare friday night out.

Well, I think we've found it. The worst restaurant in the valley.

My husband had eaten at this establishment a few years ago, and numerous times many moons ago and he raved about it. We decided to give it a try and let me tell you, it was bad from the get go.

There were maybe 6 tables sat when we arrived, definitely not busy by any means. We were sat promptly and given water, we ordered their sampler appetizer to start (short ribs, onion rings, potato skins, and chicken wings). That arrived around 30 minutes later. For almost all fried food? Um, okay. You could tell none of it was fresh. The "silver" or sinew was left on the rib tips (not short ribs as stated) and we couldn't even chew the meat. The chicken wings were good, the potato skins were wedges with a cheap cheese blend , and chopped green bell peppers broiled on top. Now, for the "main course". My husband decided to try their patty melt sandwich, and I ordered the fish and chips. Now, apparently we should've ordered the prime rib because it's their "speciality". But, from my waitressing and restaurant experience,, if you've got something on your menu, it should be good. No matter what you specialize in.

My husbands patty melt...slimy onions? Check. Burned bread? Check. Overdone meat? Check. His fries tasted like my fish (I tasted them before ever tasting my fish). My fish was good, but very greasy. I don't think I've ever not finished fish n' chips but tonight, I just couldn't.

Here's the grand finale. The waitress came to see how everything was, I politely told her that my husband could not finish his sandwich because it was very bad. He didn't even eat 1/4 of the sandwich, poor guy. So, she mentioned it to what I assume was the manager...the waitress came back with the bill and informed us that the manager said to take 10% off our bill. Really? 10%. We spent over $50.00 on a bad appetizer, three beer, an almost untouched patty melt, and two pieces of fish? We wanted to say oh so much but decided that we wouldn't come back and that we would pay our bill because we obviously weren't getting anywhere with the staff. And, upon further examination (after leaving this place), we did a little calculating and the "10%" of $44.00 was $3.00. That literally, doesn't add up.

What a disappointment. I think someone should call Chef Ramsey on this place.

Long Drive but Fantastic Food!!. I had heard either on the radio or tv about a steak n ribs place located on Antanheum Rd. We decided to try to find it last night while wanting to try something new. (we're regular friday nighters @ the country buffet) We found it without to much trouble and went in. The place was pretty much empty which surprised me since it was dinner hr. on a friday night. We told the very friendly waitress to give us awhile with the menues as it was our first visit. My friend (who is a very good eater) chose the chicken gizzards with fries and some coleslaw. He liked them so much that he ate a pound and a half of them!!!! He said they were the tenderest he had ever had. He wasn't thrilled with the coleslaw, and ate all his fries. I had the fish n chips. I liked the fries but wished there had been more of them. The fish was very good. He had a lrg glass of milk and i had a soda with a refill. All in all we really enjoyed our dinner, till the chk. came. It was $50+ which caught us a little by surprise for what we had ordered. Our recommendation..... enjoy the great food but be prepared for the check.

Down home feel. Ordered to-go from here, and they were willing to take gift certificate/discount for this, which many restaurants won't do. Fast service. Menu available inside has more options than what's listed online. Had pulled pork sandwich, with ample amount of meat, good sweet flavor. Brisket sandwich served with onion rings, again a good amount of meat and tasty. The fries has a good batter on them.
What was best was the 'personal pie', blueberry, made to order, warm with quality crust and a little sprinkle of sugar on top. Only $4.99, would definitely go back for this. All in all, good experience and good food.
Cranky Diner
It's a bit of a drive, but worth it.. We have visited the Lone Star Ranch House a number of times since its reopening. It is actually better now than just about any time in the past. Here’s why:

On our most recent visit my wife chose to have an appetizer and chili for dinner. I had the meatloaf. Well, her eyes were bigger than her stomach. The chili came in a huge bowl with a very large side of cornbread. If we had known how much chili they would serve with a bowl that is all she would have ordered. The chili was flavorful and spicy, just as chili should be. The cornbread was exceedingly moist and slightly sweet. The cornbread is cakey in nature, so not really southern, but I’ve never liked true southern cornbread. Everything was served hot and fresh.

The appetizer she ordered with the BBQ pork nachos. Literally, a platter was brought to the table heaped with chips, BBQ pork, cheese, salsa and sour cream. It was so savory, cheesy and delicious. It is hard to explain the flavor combination of cheese and BBQ pork, but it is unique and delicious. The nachos would have easily fed 2 people a full meal, and would have been a perfect sharable for a table of 4.

Having a good idea of what the volume of food we were getting was, I limited my order to a main dish. I usually avoid meat loaf at restaurants because it is either very bland or made of the leftovers from the walk-in. The Ranch House’s meat loaf was certainly not leftovers from the walk-in. The serving of meatloaf was huge, moist and juicy and very flavorful. The mashed potatoes were just perfect and well seasoned and the vegetable on the side consisted of sautéed carrots, zucchini, and small squash in a seasoned butter. I couldn’t have been happier with my dinner.

The Ranch House is certainly not a low-cal place to eat. The menu is extensive, and leans toward heavier fare, including steaks, some seafood. Lighter eaters can find a number of items on the menu, such as dinner sized salads that would make for a filling and lower calorie meal. Prices are competitive, especially for the quantity of food you get.

The staff has always been friendly and food is served quickly and always fresh and hot. The atmosphere is “country”. The interior of the restaurant is just a large open room with typical antique farm equipment and accessories mounted on the walls. The interior would be best described as rustic.

By the way, the Ranch House is known for its breakfasts.

If you are in the mood for a filling and hearty meal, you can’t go wrong with the ranch house. It is well worth the drive into West Valley.

Went to Ranch House today for a late anniversary lunch----figured that's where we had our first date so let's go there-----WILL NOT BE BACK------we both ordered the rib eye---I ordered mine medium well....mashed potatoes with gravy on the side-----

get it, there is gravy on the mashed potatoes (I don't like gravy on them because there is always way to much of it) anyway.......she said "oh they put gravy on them, do you want me to take it back"--I said "no, I will just scoop it off"......then, cut the rib eye and it's red/rare and I also have red BLOODY juice on my plate from that......the broccoli was raw instead of cooked like it was supposed to be--they cooked the mashed potatoes in something because they tasted funny AND the garlic toast was burnt----

the waitress came to the table to ask how things were---I said "gross, my meat is red/raw and not cooked"......she asked if I wanted something else but I said no because my DH was already almost done eating his and he will eat my rib eye because he likes his rare anyway-----so for our anniversary lunch, I had a small dinner salad-------which by the way came with cheese but maybe 5 sredded pieces

even though the waitress did not charge for my husbands ice tea and gave us 20% off we still will not be back---after $43 later (including tip)

WILL NOT BE BACK

Different dining expearance. We decided to try the Lone Star and it has reopened with new owners. Some thing haven't changed, like the padding in the booth's seats as it is needed because of the long wait time from ordering, to the hour and a half time to get the meal. Mind you it was 7:45 pm and the place was less than 1/4 full.

The wife ordered fish and chips with a side salad, I ordered 1/2 rack of ribs and side salad. than the wait began.

When the food arrived the wife's fish and chips only had 3 small, and by small I mean popcorn shrimp size pieces of fish in a nasty batter and the fries were COLD. The waitress said that more fish was being cooked as the portion was too small. My ribs were ok, a bit on the dry side, over done and swimming in BBQ sauce. The cold slaw was taste less and watery. Now when it comes to BBQ I know my stuff as I am a trained BBQ judge and have judged many events including the local BBQ event in Selah. This is not true BBQ even though they have nice a smoker outside.

The hostess thought it would be a good idea to argue with the wife on just how long we waited for the cold food and burnt ribs. we were told that we were the last customers to come in the door, like that matters or has any bearing on how it is cooked. The hostess gave us the talk to the hand thing and walked away. On that same note we will also do the talk to the hand thing but we will run away and NOT return

Good luck Lone Star, I will keep a look out for the going out of business sale so I can get a sweet BBQ pit for cheep. I cant wait for Famous Daves BBQ to open just 5 miles away

2-3 stars. I am acquaintances with the owners and good friends with one of the waitresses, and decided to take my family there for dinner. My husband had sirloin steak (was supposed to be medium), mashed potatoes, and veggie, I had chicken Alfredo and a salad, my children had spaghetti, and chicken strips. Shawn the cook (and owner) should use a thermometer or if he does us it have it checked for accuracy the steak was rare to medium rare, veggies were awesome as were potatoes, celery and onion do not belong in Alfredo at all, the sauce was runny was nice to have shaved Parmesan cheese though, spaghetti sauce was a little sweet but had real chunks of veggies so it was not a total wash, fries were tasty. We each had to sample each others plates a bit.

The things I didn't like were no refills on kids sodas without paying for unlimited any other place they're free price for drinks was a little high at 1.50 for one regular size plastic cup. Also really disliked the celery and onion in the Alfredo sauce. Its a little too dark and cold in there needs redecorating to bring it back to life.

We thought the waitress Rachel was great on top of things for being the only one in the dining room with about 6-8 tables of people. Although the steak wasn't cooked the proper temp my husband did like the seasoning of it.

Overall cost for this meal was 55.00 plus tip, a little pricey but no one went away hungry. Will be awhile before we go back with that cost and the drive out there bit expensive for our budget.

So happy the Ranch House is back!. My husband and I just had the pleasure of trying out the re-opened Lone Star Ranch House - we had really missed it since it closed about 2 years ago. It was great! The food is better than ever, the service prompt and friendly. You can get a hearty breakfast, and lunch/dinner feature good old-fashioned comfort foods, barbeque, or you can go "healthy" with the salad options. This will once again be our "go to" place for a tasty meal at a reasonable price, close to home in the West Valley, when we are too tired after a long day at work or just don't want to bother with cooking, and don't want to travel downtown (20-30 minutes each way).
