I was surprised to see that Tokyo Steakhouse had closed, but couldn't be happier that the Dojo replaced it. I hope it has better luck! The small plate menu it quite extensive. There are definitely some dishes for an adventurous palate but enough familiar items for anyone to be satisfied. My party of two ordered the Dojo salad (which was more like a cole slaw), the beet and avocado tempura (a great breading but could have used a dipping sauce) and a bowl of ramen each. I love that they offer a smaller portion of ramen along with their regular. Although the broth wasn't as stout as other places in the city, it was delicious and flavorful. I was very happy with the service and ambiance of The Dojo and will definitely be back to try more of the menu. Maybe even after a late night of partying since they are open until 3AM.

UPDATE: I'm surprised that not many people come here. I came once around 7pm and another time at 10pm, both times had about 3 tables occupied. I highly recommend the Paitan ramen in Miso broth. The Miso broth is lighter and less rich than the Shio broth, which has a more soy sauce base. Get the $9 Regular size as the Izakaya size is pretty small. The ramen comes with two pieces of Chashu meat and half an egg to die for. If you have a big appetite, order extra Chashu meat for $3 (comes with 4 pieces of Chashu which is a great deal). The Dojo may be one of the largest ramen places in Austin so it's good for groups; no need to wait long lines to be seated. In addition, The Dojo offers several snack sized items to satisfy those late night munchies. The servers are very nice and enthusiastic. Our server Diana was knowledgeable about the menu items (there's so many), and was very detailed when describing each dish. I encourage more people to go try out The Dojo and see what they have to offer. Don't be embarrassed if you end up ordering two bowls of ramen...because you're not alone. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ [3 Stars] I would have given this place 4 stars if the servers weren't so slow with our table; we came at a non busy time and we waited a while for the waiter to come take our orders and our food took a long time as well. Food: Their Miso Ramen was decent and filling (The regular size bowl is $8 vs. the smaller bowl for $6). I got the regular size bowl and it was a good portion. The pork meat was really good and they give you a lot of noodles. I also ordered the Chicken Kara-Age which was good. Dessert: I am a fan of the Matcha Brule. The top layer was crispy and the green tea creme was delicious. I also tried The Dojo Parfait, but was not a fan of the red beans, the corn flakes, or the green tea ice cream. The mochi tempura with the vanilla ice cream was good though. I would recommend coming here when you have a late night craving for ramen and tapas.

I love this place!!! The Dojo is an excellent choice because it gives me an alternative to eat a very late night meal until 1am (instead of fast food, Jim's, or IHOP which are in the area). I love the atmosphere of the place. The service is great but it can be slow at times. The ramen has 2 sizes (small or regular) and depending on your preference, it can be a meal or a side item. There are 3 items that I would recommend: the miso ramen, the sashimi 5 ways, and the buta kimchi with fried rice. All the plates were very inexpensive or reasonably priced. As for the drink selection, I highly recommend the sake cocktails. Simply delicious and refreshing. Not in the mood for cocktails, try one of the Japanese beers (love the Asahi Black).
