Dining is not just about food it is about the entire experience; the ambiance, the service, all these things make your dining experience an event to remember. I am a super huge foodie and some friends took me to this gem of a place . The service here is fantastic, you are greeted with staff that actually enjoy what they do and they continue to be attentive to you throughout your entire time there. Depending on what day you go and time, you may have a bit of a wait but trust me it is worth every minute of your wait. The ambiance gives the illusion of being on a boat which is quite fitting. When you are seated you are give an unlimited supply of garlic bread and a pickled vegetable plate. Now when I say garlic bread I am not talking about bread that tastes like rubber and salt; this is fresh bread, warm and soft and delicious. Your waiter/waitress keeps your pitcher full of your drink of choice and then comes the food. Oh my God!!! You would feel as though you are on an episode of "Man versus Food." The portions are insane, you cannot finish all in one sitting, most times you would end up leaving there with a doggie bag. I had the lobster, ribs and crab legs combo, my friends also had 3 way combos and in total we paid $160 excluding tips. Listen to me, the food is super delicious, very well seasoned, I chose the Cajun seasonings I was in heaven. Every bite was tasty. Now please be warned the side dishes are nothing to write home about, very basic but we did not go there for the side dishes we went there for the star of the show which is the sea food. Everything is absolutely delicious. Lots of smiles and a doggie bag later I was looking forward to the next time I would visit Crab Shanty. You have got to try it. It is worth the experience.
Tasty & one of the best values on City Island! Definitely worth a try! The Garlic Bread....Is sinful!. I really enjoy Crab Shanty! This is one of my favorite restaurants on the island! The brunch is the best deal going! I've tried quite a few places on CI (Sammy's, Tony's Pier and a few other restaurants..who's name is escaping me now) All are good, but Crab Shanty is my favorite. I have been going there over 15 years and it has never disappointed. Their broiled Crab Legs & the Garlic Bread are my two favorite items.....
THE BEST EVERRRRRRR!!. One of the best dishes and my favorite would have to be the penne alla vodka! Hands down been to many other restaurants but this one has won my trophy! NO COMPARISON!
Highly recommended!. A must for the seafood lover in you! Simply put, I never leave this restaurant hungry or disappointed!!
The food was excellent! Hot and tasty! Everything from the garlic bread served when we got there, the clam chowder (Manhattan Red is my favorite!), and the snow crabs and the lobster tail I had. Do yourself a favor and request a table that Lina is a server for for excellent customer service. She kept checking on us to make sure we needed anything! Been there a long time ago but would go there for her again and again!
Haven’t been to City Island in over a decade. This trip reminded me of what I’ve been missing. Awesome daily lunch specials like Shrimp done how you like it with crab legs and a lobster tail for under $40 bucks!
To top it all off outstanding customer service. Edgar is an absolute sweetheart who tended to our every need, with a smile. I could hang out there all day. We also lucked out with a local street fair one block away with a variety of eclectic vendors with lots of little goodies. The entire experience was 5 stars ⭐️ I’ll be back for sure💕

Unapologetically if I don't taste brine on seafood I am dissatisfied and disappointed. If I don't taste brine then I think the worst.
Brine means freshness, means freshly caught. It is but a thin and ultimately crucial link to the Sea...
Without it, I'm eating limp fish. Clams are by far the best though here.
Great service. Great strong drinks. Delicious food! I had the crab legs and lobster it was so much crab legs. Big thick crab legs that come out in one piece when you crack it open. So filling and satisfying.
I traveled with a group of seniors on a day trip. Each ordered what they felt was right for themselves. I ordered broiled Scallops and asked my server to give me the garlic sauce, it was perfect. My friend had the fisherman's platter and said it was so much food. Before the meal started we had garlic bread. I had the Manhattan clam chowder with my meal. The Scallops came on their own platter and were cooked to perfection. After the meal we had dessert, I had coffee and chocolate 🍫 cake with chocolate 🍫 frosting. The server was very nice and answered all of our concerns with speed and grace. In my opinion.. this is a very good restaurant to bring a friend or family member for a memorable meal.
Had a great lunch. Pricing and Service are great. Everything was delicious. Served quick and hot.
simply awesome dinner, the atmosphere and waiter was amazing.... I reccomend to everyone

Amazing food the food, the portions are huge. Everything came out so great!
The crab clusters are amazing. Carrot cake is great, recommend the pasta with garlic sauce don’t forget to get the bread!
I've been coming here since Joe V and Sharon were running the restaurant, over 40 years.
The food quality has remained consistently good, but the service is spotty sometimes.
OVERALL: I would recommend this restaurant
Another Bronx/city island classic. Seafood fried/ baked/ grilled, lots of bread and strong drinks. Been coming here since I was a kid. Throughout covid to present, the service has been consistent which keeps us going. Great spot for large groups and is very popular for Mother’s Day, graduations and the like. Dinners prepared for two is well worth it ! Valet parking- make sure to tip.
