Ah, yes, the legendary Kum Kau Kitchen!
It was, somewhat, nostalgic to see that they’d returned to their, original, take-out restaurant format; just the way I remembered it. Alas, it is one of the two last remaining Myrtle Ave establishments that go back to the 70's, my heyday!
I'm fairly certain that I was one of their first customers (if not THE first), and was a consistent regular from '76 to '82.
Oh, the memories of coming home from Sweet Basil's Jazz Club, getting off of the GG (not the G) at Clinton And Washington, at 2:30 in the morning, and walking down to Kum Kau Kitchen for a half a fried-chicken and fried rice!
Well, even tho' Sweet Basil's is long-gone, and the GG is, now, just the G, Kum Kau's half a fried-chicken and fried rice is STILL a classic.
May they be there, on Myrtle Avenue, just off the corner of Washington Avenue, forever (‘tho, I’m afraid, I’ll never visit my former home, again)!
Thanks, Kum Kau Kitchen, for many fond memories!
I really enjoyed this restaurant. I decided to go because a youtuber I followed gave this place super high ratings and my expectations were through the roof. I ordered the recommended Chow Mein (I chose Chicken) and while it was good I really wish I would have chose something I would traditionally ordered so I could have compared. Normally I would order the Sesame Chicken, chicken with broccoli or Lo mein. Overall pretty good but not the best for me. I will definetly try again if in the area again.

Their food is the best in town. The down size is they do not deliver and there is NEVER any parking.
