Out here from Chicago and this place is a no brainer. Excellent Mexican food. Very fast service. The cooks( Mexican women) are fun to watch. Very talented quick order cooks. I highly recommend
I've been going to the "soul kitchen" since before they had the new building. If I had only one meal in life to eat on it would be here.
I no longer live in Denver, but the very first place I go after leaving DIA is here.
The only issue I've ever had was whether to order the smothered chili relleno burrito or the tacos al pastor
I have dined here since 1992 and still live nearby. Though the neighborhood has changed a great deal, El Taco de Mexico remains an authentic, delicious gem that I will never stop going to (no matter how many trendy taco joints that spring up!).
Most authentic, best tasting, James st best place for Mexican food in the state of Colorado hands down. We eat here as often as three times a week. It's just that good!
Smothered Burrito with green chili and onions is absolutely amazing. We specifically go here to eat when we are in town. Was introduced a few years back and has been amazing ever since. If you want authentic Mexican food this is the place to go.
Finally found some time to give it a try while visiting the Denver area and definitely did not disappoint! Came in for an early lunch, shared a smothered Chili Relleno, and had the Cheeksmeat, Carnitas, and Pastor Tacos. Everything was outstanding, full of flavor, cooked and seasoned perfectly, and was at a perfect heat for my liking. Thought about it most of the day… just could not understand why it took so long to come in for a bite?!
I come here for one reason and one reason only, the Chile Relleno burrito smothered in green chile. Everything else I’ve had here is good. Somethings are as good as I’ve had elsewhere and somethings I’ve had better elsewhere. The rest of the menu really doesn’t matter to me because I will, and have, driven 200 miles out of my way just for this burrito. I love chile relleno burritos! It’s my go to item if I see it on the menu somewhere. I’ve tried a ton of them and this is my favorite. It’s a big burrito, not enormous, but it’s bigger than a burrito from Alberto’s, Filiberto’s, pick your favorite berto’s which is bigger than most burritos. The inside is filled with very tasty rice and beans, but most importantly a very generous portion of a cheese stuffed green chile pepper. It’s lightly battered in egg and deep fried so that there is a little bit of crispiness in many of the bites. There’s enough Chile Relleno to get some in every bite of the burrito along with the beans and rice if you’re paying attention. This is all wrapped in a perfect burrito tortilla meaning it stays out of the way flavor wise, adds a little chewiness to each bite, and holds together throughout the meal without getting soggy or falling apart-the perfect vehicle to convey the tastiness of this burrito. And if that wasn’t enough, this burrito is smothered in one of the most wonderful green chili sauces I’ve ever had. The green chili is a rich brown color and you can see in it pieces of the chili, onions and other seasonings that were cooked to perfection to make this excellent sauce. it’s not a heavy or thick green chile sauce. It’s light, savory and a wonderful compliment to the burrito. Take your time and pay attention to the wonderful blend of flavors in every well balanced bite you take. If you like green chile burritos and especially chile relleno burritos, you need to come to El Taco de Mexico and try this one out. If you have one that you like better, i sincerely want to know where it’s from so I can go try it.

My guide on how I use the 5 star system:
⭐️ = Not good
⭐️⭐️ = Not terrible, but would not get again
⭐️⭐️⭐️ = Solid, but I’d try something else before this again
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ = Really liked it! You should try this
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ = Loved it! Must try
I’ll make adjustments to my ratings after subsequent visits. If you see a .3 or .7 it means:
.3 = Wasn’t as good the 2nd or last time I tried it
.7 = This was better the 2nd or last time I tried it.
Incredible! The carnitas tacos are bursting with flavor and the burrito is the best I’ve ever had. Exceeded expectations and really nice staff.
As a daughter of a Mexican woman I’m always in search of tacos as good as hers. This may have beat out my mamas tacos. So authentic and flavorful I feel transported to Mexico
This was our first time in, and we went based on reviews and an article that was written about this restaurant. You order at the counter. They are very busy so sometimes it takes some time for them to get to you from what I could see. Not very good English on the other side of the counter so my husband didn’t really understand what was being said. Still, the tamales and chicken enchiladas were really good and we will be back. The huge menu that is above the counter all the way along the wall from left to right is very extensive. I saw great reviews for the green chili and I want to try that next time, I would highly recommend for a very casual lunch or for a quick burrito to go.
