This place is awesome! It is like a hidden gem, especially since it is across the street from Hickory Hollow! I've been going to Hickory Hollow all of my life but carriagehousecafe is my new home for Chicken Fried Steak (CFS)! I wish I had found out about this place sooner! They are also better, in my opinion, than Goodson's Cafe, which claims to have the best CFS! I promise you this CFS is tender, perfectly deep-fried, and smothered with just the right amount of gravy. Their banana pudding is also good and something I plan to order every time I eat here!! The chicken tenders are good, the stuffed potatoes are good, and they have hamburgers and BBQ as well, plus much more. What I love even more than the CFS, is the atmosphere. This place is all about Texas, Carriages, and Horses, and they literally have tons of antique furniture. It is a great place for anyone to eat at, whether eating alone, dining with a family, or eating with co-workers. It is also a great place to show off Texas to out-of-state visitors! I think they also host weddings and the like so I am sure that they can feed an army if needed. It is a neat place and I am glad that someone told me about it! You really need to try carriagehousecafe! You will not leave disappointed if you love Texas, and you love good food!!
Great food, at a great price, and an awesome place to kick off our spooky night before a haunted house :)
I recommend the burgers, they're amazing!
We live near this place and have seen great reviews. When we drove up, the parking lot was empty and we could only see chickens walking around. When we walked in, we were greeted by a ton of western decor. We went around the corner to the counter and a very kind lady greeted us. She helped us by telling us what they are most known for. We were the only customers in a HUGE place! The decor and music were awesome. Our service was fantastic. I got the chicken tenders and the breading was to die for. It was so light but so crispy all at the same time. My dad and husband got the chicken fried steak and they said it was one of the most tender ones they’d ever had. My mom got the BBQ baked potato and said she liked how the sauce was fresh and not mixed in to the meat. Because we went kind of early for dinner, it was kind of a ghost town, but people were showing up as we left. DEFINITELY a hidden gem!
It is so cute. Lots of carriages and antiques. The food was great also. I've had the BBQ and it is great. The gumbo was wonderful! Reasonable prices.

Absolutely unrivaled chicken fried steak, as always... whenever I have a craving for the best comfort food, I grab some family or friends and come here!
Love the antiques and the vintage bar. My niece and I take pictures of it every time we visit. Chicken Fried steak was great. The fried corn balls are to die for!
My family ate here for the first time the other day. New favorite restaurant spot. Best chicken fried steak and fried okra ever!! Can't wait to go back.
Great chicken fried steak and side dishes. Salad bar was also great, kind of hidden. Owner was very nice. Very comfortable spot.
It was an interesting ambiance with the saddles and country theme. You order your food at the counter and pay upfront, they bring it to you. The salad was basic yet very FRESH and GOOD. The meal comes & I'm blown away! The chicken fried chicken MELTS in your mouth literally. The fried corn nuggets are crunchy & good. We'll be back.

GREAT Chicken Fried Steaks ..... mmmmmm ....
one pound CFS .... salad and one side .... $14.95 .... WOW !!
.
Yes .... Looks a little run down on the outside .... CRAZY amount of Antiques on the inside .... Will be returning ... again and again and Again !!
We wanted to find a place that had chicken fried steak. Last time we went to hickory hollow but we wanted something different and this was down the street. When we got there we weren't sure if this place was really open and there was no sign saying that it's a restaurant. There are a lot of potholes in the parking lot.
This place we went into is very different and not your average hidden gem. The size and portion of the food is ginormous and flavorful. When we went in there there were only two other tables and when we left there was nobody else. I would give it five stars if this place was a different location instead of a creepy old house.
We love this place! ...Betty and owners are great ...waitress kitchen help very nice they work hard to make it !! Worth visiting like a western museum!! Wish I could help them out more ..parking lot gravel ...yard service...very proud of owner daughters for her strength! If you can help out surprise them and just do it!! Leave business cards!! Hugs to them great time there ..go see and eat ..worth it!
We really enjoyed our meal here. Everything was very fresh, portions were generous, and you can't beat the prices. We both had the chicken fried steak which was absolutely delicious! The sides were all fresh and tasty as well. We'd certainly go back.
First I must admit, this was the best food I ever tasted in my life when it comes down to restaurants. The food prices was reasonable and the old fashion atmosphere was awesome.
This is the best chicken fried steak I ever had. Absolutely delicious! My compliments to the cook.
