I absolutely love Southbrew. Great coffee and great conversations!! Southbrew is the only coffee shop where I am willing to take a chance on a new flavor. They have opened me up to so much more than my old vanilla and caramel “safe” coffees and I have yet to be disappointed. See you soon!!

Cosmopolitan Cornbread

What?! A new coffee place in town!? Oh boy, oh boy! That is right up my alley. So, today I headed on over to the location on their first day of business and when I pulled up I was absolutely tickled. Why? Because this particular coffee shop is a drive-through coffee stand. You see, we moved here from Alaska, and in Fairbanks, there are drive-up coffee shops on the corner of pretty much every major intersection. I missed seeing those cute little shops – not to mention being able to get good coffee from private, family-owned shops – and did I mention that you can do that without even having to get out and walk across ice? Nice! Yep..so when I drove up and saw this adorable little shop, I could almost imagine – just for a moment – that I was back in my beloved Alaska. Southbrew is located on Wall Triana Highway, just south of I-565, and convenient for those who use the Martin Road gate to access Redstone Arsenal. Since it is also just a hop off of I-565, it’s also a very handy stop for those traveling anywhere near the airport as well.

I made a pass through Southbrew last week on my way back into town from Decatur. I love a drive through coffee shack! They weren't busy when I rolled in so I got to place my order quickly. Unfortunately, I had no idea what I wanted! I took a very cursory look at their holiday specials and made a selection. Now I can't remember the specific name of the drink I got, but I wanna say it was oatmeal/spice cookie flavored. I got it iced, as always. The gentleman working the stand was very polite and gave me several warm smiles throughout the interaction. We didn't talk much as I was on the phone with someone else, but he was respectful of that fact while still communicating all the information I needed to know. I enjoyed my drink -- lots of warm, sweet, and holiday-spice flavors. My only major complaint is I wish there had been some more ice; it was never quite cold enough for me and the lack of ice, I think, contributed to the very slightly grainy texture I got in a couple of sips (I'm thinking this was syrup/flavoring in the bottom of the cup that caused this). Still, I liked my drink and would certainly be down to come back and try a different one, too!
