I can't believe I've lived over a year in Jackson Heights without getting dinner here before! I somehow never noticed this tiny little Chinese place but I absolutely notice it now. It has the casual feel, low prices, and familiar menu of most take-out Chinese places, but has a few touches that make it feel more upscale and homey-y, such as the daily specials (which all sound amazing) written on the chalkboard on the wall and the complimentary flavored water (I don't know if it is watermelon everyday, or just today, but oh man it was good).
The staff were super friendly and they seemed to get along well with each other, which was nice to watch and contributed to the warm atmosphere.
The selection of veggie options is extensive, and that is what initially brought me in - I had the mango veggie chicken and it was very flavorful with a great variety of veggies (I asked for no peppers or onions, which they were happy to accommodate). I also ordered steamed veggie dumplings, which were similarly fantastic. I'll say it again - I can't believe I didn't notice this place before!
Better than your good Chinese take out. Menu is vegetarian friendly and lots of healthy options, as well seasonal specials. They really take care of their food quality and the ingredients they use. If you order the hot and sour soup you will see they really take thier time to make this. The chicken and broccoli is not greasy and very delicious, but the general Tso chicken is not so great.
We love Saw Shack! Their Eggplant with Garlic Sauce and Chicken and String Beans with ginger is outrageous. We often get the vegetable fried rice which has big pieces of broccoli and other fresh veggies in it, and it's never been greasy, and the brown rice is plump and nutty tasting. The only reason we're not giving 5 stars is because the General Tso and Sesame Chicken are a bit disappointing and dry, otherwise, they have a stellar menu. We even love the sweet plantains and Roti, which might be unusual on a Chinese restaurant menu, but somehow it all works. You also won't wait long, whether you go there to order, or have delivery.
