One of the best steakhouses I've been to and that's saying something. So good, I went twice in one five-day period while in town on business. The first time I had the Swordfish on special. Magnificently accomplished with a dry rub typically used on steak and yet still boasting of the fresh seafood flavor I was looking for. The service was impeccable. Colin is an absolute gentleman and so clearly focused on the client experience you feel appropriately as though you're the only guests he is serving that evening.
Took our out-of-town guest to Majestic last night dinner and had a great time. I had almost written off The Majestic because of a negative happy hour experience, but full scale dinner was a different story, at least last night anyway. Service was excellent and food was excellent, actually. I have to say the quality of the steak was right up there with the best in KC if not the best. I even thought it was an excellent value. You get two sides with your steak, so let's start by taking that into consideration. My wife had the ribeye and I had the blackened ribeye, and we both enjoyed our steaks immensely, as did our guest, who's also a foodie. For my part, I thought the blackened seasoning was perfect, you could really taste it without having it overwhelm the flavor of the steak - which was outstanding, it had some fat (after all, it is a ribeye), but quite a bit of meat, which had great flavor, really satisfying steak. I had the mashed potatoes and gravy (which I never have but was very happy with here) and the green beans, which had a hint of spiciness and also great flavor. The bread was even great, nice and soft and fresh. On this evening the soup of the day was potato leek and it was great, not too salty, plenty of chunks of potato, and great creamy texture. Service was excellent, a pair of servers handled our table deftly, we never had to wait to refill wine or water glasses, and they were very pleasant, personable, knowledgeable, made good menu recommendations, too. Overall and great evening, we were very happy with our experience and I'm glad we gave it another try. The one negative was the sparkling wine (bottle) was just not very cold at all. They did put it in a chilling bucket when it was brought to the table, but this is a pet peeve of mine with restaurants - don't put it on the menu if you're not going to keep it cold, I don't understand that, why they can't keep it cold. Drinking warm sparkling is not enjoyable. Also in passing by the folks crammed into the small happy hour area, I was reminded why happy hour is so much less pleasant than dinner. Not enough room and just let people sit in a larger area, you'll get more business (that also bewilders me). But overall a great time at a classic KC restaurant.
Wonderful. They have become my favorite steak place in KC. Plus some nice Jazz music while you eat.
