Asuka was open four years ago in Westwood Los Angeles. It offers an $85 or $150 kaisaki menu and a la carte. I like the good pacing of foods with very fresh raw fishes and a nice ambience. We love the small outdoor dining environment. Currently, the sushi bar is not open due to the pandemic. The restaurant inside is very clean.

We celebrated our 5 year anniversary here and got the omakase mid tier. We were quite full at the end of the meal. The tiramsu at the end tasted like a cheese cake custard - chef' kiss.

Asuka had very good, attentive service from the start. The food was clean and fresh and also had a very nice, classic Japanese aesthetic. It was great to have "real" Japanese food and not the fusion that is more common these days. (Which can be great itself, just Asuka tends towards traditional.) The prices aren't cheap but the service and presentation are worthy of the asking price.

I got the omakase, $68 Looking at the other orders leaving the sushi bar, it looks like that is what most people get. It is a pretty basic selection, but still a good variety for the price. If I had one disagreement, it was that the rice on the nigiri was a bit dry, but to the point where I don’t think most people would notice it. I appreciate their creativity with the toppings. It’s always a fun way to see a chefs creative twist on sushi. They make their own wasabi blend, and it is really tasty. It almost had me fooled with real wasabi, as it has some of the same characteristics, but not all. I would give the fish quality a 4/5 on my sushi scale. Maybe around the level of sugar fish or just above, but not 5/5 mind blowing, or life changing sushi.

All the dishes we ordered were excellent, the ingredients were very fresh. The manager informed us that they handpick their ingredients. He and the staff were very welcoming and friendly. I will be back for more.

If you ever been to Japan you know that the harder the fish the more fresh it is. The softer the fish the longer it's sat there. Place has pretty amazing fish. Its a solid 4.5 for the food, the service was great and very friendly. Good place for a date or business meeting (which i had) price is decent for the location.

Got the Asuka omakase substituting the miso soup for the clam soup. Very fresh ingredients with subtle notes of wasabi in each piece. Rice is of proper temperature. To fully enjoy the meal it is highly recommended to slowly eat each piece. Service: Outstanding and very patient. For those who are not accustomed to omakase the servers are patient in explaining every detail. The manager is very energetic and makes you feel very welcomed. Each table is well attend to. COVID precautions: At the time of this post LA county has allowed for indoor seating. They take your temperature and provide hand sanitizer upon entry. Indoor seating is max of 4 table well spread apart. With the large patio doors open for plenty of ventilation. They also have outdoor seating with heat lamps.
