Dibella's Subs Mason

Even though I'm a diehard Jersey Mike's fan, I'd been wanting to try DiBella's because of positive reviews about its fresh bread options. As I found myself near its Mason store and craving a sub, I finally gave it a try. I ordered the Godfather (Genoa salami, capicola and spicy ham) on a white bread roll, dressed with oil, provolone, lettuce, tomato and onion. I was tempted to specify "Mikes's way" to approximate the juicy zing of Jersey Mike's oil, vinegar and oregano, but didn't want to appear rude.

The taste of my sub was dominated by the rich blend of its fresh meat flavors, so much so that it overwhelmed the under represented presence of everything else. The bread was indeed fresh, but its flavor was overpowered by the meat. It was an extremely dry sub. I also ordered a side of potato salad, which was generous in portion and nicely seasoned, far superior to most fast food restaurants' potato salad. Being a first-time customer, I was given a free chocolate chip cookie, which was soft, moist and delicious.

Overall, my DiBella's Godfather sub was fresh and excellent quality, but too dry to win me over from Jersey Mike's Italian sub "Mike's way." Since I may have made some bad menu decisions, I've decided to give DiBella's another try and perhaps ask the server to assemble a tasty dry-to-liquid balanced sub with less meat and more dressings. Meanwhile, DiBella's, please add vinegar to your menu.
