Went for the breakfast buffet this past Saturday morning with my husband and son. It was my first time ever in the diner. I had never gone before because I had always heard terrible things about the PREVIOUS owners yelling in the restaurant and making dining there a terrible experience. Let me just say the Downtown Diner is now the place my family will be going for breakfast from now on! We don't usually go out for breakfast because there is no where worth it in Mattoon. Everything was fresh, hot, and delicious! From the fluffy eggs and crisp bacon, to the hash and fried corn meal mash everything was perfect. PLENTY of selection(yum the French toast!) Our server was delightful as was the kitchen staff filling the buffet. Can't wait until you decide to open up for dinner! Before then, I'm sure we'll be back to try lunch! PS we got a couple of cookies on our way out. Yum! Welcome to the neighborhood Hubbartts!

I was raised in the South most of my life so when coming up to Mattoon to visit my husbands family...the diner is a must! Love their wraps (especially the cheeseburger wrap), love their country fries steak dinner and the salad bar is amazing! On the weekends they have a full buffet bar (which I'm usually not a fan of buffets but here is the only place I look forward to going to for breakfast on the weekends) :) . Whenever you need some good ol' comfort food....downtown diner is definitely the place to go and eat at! Thanks guys for always serving is hot, fresh and delicious food! ��

This place is awesome!!! The owner is awesome!!! The waitresses are awesome!!! The cooks are awesome!!! The food is awesome!!! Did I mention the diner is awesome? This is my favorite place to eat!!!
