Dining and decor are very good. We were a bit worried. The UrbanSpoon rating was only 78%. But we were hungry, and are long time Mexican food fans.
I'm so glad we stopped in. The decorations are bright and colorful. The service is very attentive, and the food? I had the taquitos mexicanos and my wife selected a chimichanga (her favorite). Beware the sauce that comes with the taquitos if you are a gringo like me. It brought tears to my eyes. I gave her the sauce, and completely enjoyed the rest. She liked her chimichanga even more than a restaraunt close to our home in Michigan.
Final verdict - If our travel plans bring us back through Mount Vernon, Illinois, then El Rancherito will be on our list for dinner.

Pretty solid Mexican. Not the best I've had but I would definitely recommend it to someone staying in Mt. Vernon for a bit.
