Another celebration this week took us to have a Restaurant Week lunch at the iconic Il Cantinori located on a quiet tree-lined street at East 10th chosen by the birthday gal herself. Celebrities often come here as they can dine with anonymity. This restaurant was featured in a scene filmed for "Sex in the City" and customers often like to come here for this alone.

Mimi chose sautéed chicken livers on a bed of greens to begin her three course meal followed by fish baked in a tented foil with vegetables infused with saffron which she found excellent. I had a salmon carpaccio with capers, red onions and a mâche salad which was delish. My main course on the other hand was disappointing. House made farfalle with fresh mozzarella cubes, tomato and basil was partially hard and tasteless. Hadn't anyone checked on how the pasta was cooked! I managed to nibble on some and then left it. Desserts were far better. The birthday gal had the flourless chocolate cake. My dessert of a slim slice of hazelnut ice cream torte was exquisite and made up for the unappetizing main course.

Eating here was pleasant as the service was good. The room is large with a back area and fresh flowers arranged in vases. The staircase leading to the restrooms was beautifully decorated.

Absolutely amazing and ticks all the boxes! The service was outstanding and the food was even better. I went here all the way from Australia for my 23rd birthday and it exceeded my expectations. Definitely try the calamari or any of the risotto dishes. Superb!

Eat Like a Rich Tuscanista!. It's as if they moved a piece of Tuscany to East 10th Street. Who needs Little Italy when you have this place?
