If you like Chinese Food then you will LOVE #HwaYuan and if you LOVE Chinese Food then, like me, you will be in Heaven.
In terms of decor, it is hands down the most modern, elegant and tasteful space to dine in Chinatown in New York City.
On my first visit, I celebrated my 55th Birthday with my brothers, nephews and nieces. We ordered all the right dishes, between meat, fish and vegetarian, to really give us a sense of the depth of the menu and the quality of the Chef’s preparations. The menu has a really wide selection of choices for appetizers, main courses, noodles and rice as well as desserts, teas and wine. The bar area is a great place to get acquainted with a date and have a cocktail or two before the meal. I highly recommend that actually.
Hwa Yuan is a great place for a celebration but it also is simply an excellent place to enjoy a very fine meal with a date or business partner. The Customer Service alone makes the experience highly memorable. The wait staff anticipates and caters to your every need with courtesy and a smile.
Right now I am simply looking for an excuse to go back. And I am sure that you will be planning your second visit before your first is even complete. Hwa Yuan is what you want Chinatown to be all about. It truly exceeds expectations. It will become one of your favorite dining spots.
The best Chinese food in Chinatown I tried the Grand Marnier shrimp absolutely amazing also had lobster and ginger sauce to die for
Some og\f the finest cooking in all of Chinatown, excellent all around, great Chef, wonderful staff. An Old School, refined experience that is becoming in fashion again. Try the Garlic shredded pork, or Kung Pao chicken, better with breast meat.
Chili wontons amazing!
Don't listen to the fake reviews about price and quality. This is easily one of the best Chinese restaurants I have eaten at in the US. I travel 200 days a year.
I ate at the original Hwa Yuan almost every Friday twenty five years ago. The food was excellent then. The new restaurant is amazingly close to the original. The biggest difference is the price. The friendliness of the staff is still he same. The food was very good. Of course the cold sesame noodles were outstanding. I will be back, but not every week like before. Thanks for opening back up.
Great food! Lots noisy! We ordered the Beijing (Peking) crispy duck! Deliciousness overall! Order half for 2 people! We ordered a full duck and had left over. Will definitely try to come back to try out their other dishes
I went with a group of 6 for a birthday, and we all loved the food. We all had the duck special dinner, and it says it's for at least 4 but we were all stuffed. The crispy beef is amazing, I can eat endless bowls of it. The duck was great, too. The atmosphere is nice and the staff is on top of everything.
Excellent table cloth throw back Chinese menu. Upgraded modern interior and efficient service. Food is 8/10 and portions are reasonable. Menu is large and has many traditional Szechuan items. The negatives are very expensive drinks ($20) and expensive entrées. Worth a visit dor a special occasion but not tour every day kinda place.
Cold sesame noodles, it’s ok. I had better ones, I made better ones myself.
Crispy sliced beef, also ok.
Duck also ok. No sugar was given for the duck skin, have to ask for it.
Chong Qing chicken, I like the fact that Chinese long green pepper is used for the spicy but not enough SiChuan peppercorn.
Conk with chili oil, conk not fresh enough, maybe that’s why it was made with chili oil.
Lu Rou Fan, very dry, not enough meat sauce.
The food was good, but quite underwhelming for it’s price point. Maybe it’s because we didn’t get the famous duck, but it was food you could easily find around Chinatown. All the workers were very attentive and we appreciated that. The bathroom was a bit shabby too which made the experience just not up to par.
