Chuy’s was authentic Tex Mexican, amazing fresh dishes, salsa’s and sauces. Give the chicka chicka boom boom enchiladas a try, or add the boom boom (cheese sauce) to anything. The rice and beans are so fresh and authentic, very good. We didn’t get drinks this time but they look good. The food is delicious and fresh, you definitely won’t regret coming here. And the service was EXCELLENT
Chuy’s Will Rise as One of the Best Mexican Restaurants in a City with Great Mexican Restaurants.
Austin, Texas is rising as one of the best foodie cities in the country. And it turns out, Chuy’s is an Austin original. They opened in an old, abandoned Texas Barbeque joint on iconic Barton Springs Road in Austin, with seating for about sixty, a women's restroom the size of a broom closet and a men's restroom that was, well, outside. Chuy’s brings what is fun and funky about Austin Tex-Mex to Kansas City and serves authentic and fresh food in an neat atmosphere. To give you an idea of their fun and funky vibe, they have a Free Nacho Car Bar, weekdays from 4 to 7pm, where you can enjoy the Chuy's full-loaded nacho bar with chips, salsa, creamy jalapeño, queso, taco meat and other stuff. Pretty awesome.
On to the meal! I ordered the Chuychanga, a fried, flour tortilla filled with fresh, oven-roasted chicken, cheese, cilantro, and green chiles, garnished with sour cream and your choice of sauce, it comes with a small side salad, Mexican rice, and refried beans. It was a juicy, fluffy, yummy chimichanga with delicious, flavorful, innards. I can’t believe I ate the whole thing, but couldn’t stop! My friend ordered the Elvis Green Chile Fried Chicken, a Chuy’s original, which is a tender chicken breast, breaded with Lay’s potato chips (what?!?!), deep fried and smothered in green chile sauce and cheddar cheese, and served with green chile rice and refried beans. To be honest, I’m angry with Chuy’s because it took them so long to get to Kansas City and share with us this amazing dish! I will forgive them… this time. My friend loved it and was gracious enough to let me try a bite. Unfortunately, I became green with jealousy and angry at myself for not seeing it on the menu and ordering two… for myself. I want to hug the person who thought to bread and fry chicken with potato chip—brilliant! Needless to say, I’m going to try breading and frying everything at home with potato chips now.
Overall, this is a great place for Tex-Mex, serving neat creations and offering a fun nacho bar. It’s going to be hard to go anywhere else for Mexican food in Kansas City.
Came here for happy hour with friends and sat in the “bar area”. This was great for quick seating as there was a line for classic seating. The nacho bar was a hit at our table as were the house margaritas (great deal during happy hour). The service was great and the atmosphere was vibrant. Will be back soon!
