This was my first time at Hapa pdx ramen. WHAT a GEM!!! I didn’t really know what to expect. You walk in and they were super friendly and greeted me warmly and guided me through the menu. Everything was reasonably priced and the portions were large. I started with the seaweed salad ($6) and it was a huge portion (honestly it filled me up). Buuut seeing how it was my first time I ordered the hiyakashi chukka cold noodle salad ($15). It was perfect for a hot summer day. The salad greens were extremely fresh looked as if they came from the farmers market. The flavors were a cool melody of Asian twist with ginger and other aromatic smells. Super fresh and delicious. I’ll be back for sure.

Hapa PDX is a vibe! Good tunes pumping, wonderful service and seating options from tables to ramen bar. They have some very interesting whiskeys and cocktails pairings with each meal you choose.
Now for the food…the shoyu ramen was good and warmed my belly. The broth was light and fragrant. The noodles were cooked perfectly! I do wish the egg was marinated and that the pork was a little more tender, but that’s just personal preference.
Overall my experience was very delightful and I will be back after I’ve exhausted the rest of my Ramen list to try in Portland.
This is my go to ramen place as I’m off Powell so it’s super easy to get to, the ramen is always good and I’ve never had any issues ordering and being seated. I like to sit at the bar, its usually just my mom and I, as she lives about 3hrs away so we always go when she’s in town. We people watch and chat with the bartenders. They are always super friendly, answering any questions we ask about the drinks they are making. The Ramen is amazing! I almost always get the G special but this photo is of the curry, if you want some spice definitely try the curry ramen. For drinks the whiskey sour is elite but if you want something light try the Molokai mule, it’s very refreshing.
I am so happy right now. I’ve had top ramen. But real ramen is another category level entirely. I am so happy right now. I got A in my summer term and my husband brought me here for day date and to celebrate.
The food is so fantastic from the first to the last bite and slurp. I’m leaving so happy.
The atmosphere is perfect for date night.
The service is warm and laid back.
Although it’s a whiskey bar, if you’re in recovery you can have any of their juices or just water. I came for the food and will be back for the food.
I tried the "G Special" ramen. The broth wasn't as rich or complex as other ramen places in town, but unlike other ramen shops, this place had a lot of pork. You can't really see it in the photo, but there were many bite sized pieces of pork belly. This is the only place where my complaint is that there weren't enough noodles to match the meat. I was still enjoying many bites of pork after everything else in the broth was long gone.
The bowl cost $18, which is higher than everywhere else I've tried, but I don't feel ripped off since they were generous with the pork.
The interior felt extremely cramped, and even having a few customers in the entrance way was a claustrophobic experience. I didn't sit inside, so maybe the rest of the place is less crowded.
Overall, I'd give it 3.5 stars. I'm going to round up to 4 because I never tried their whiskey offerings and that's half of their specialty.
