Man, I've introduced the Vegan Italian sub to Carnivores and they want more more more. It's one of my favorite meals in Portland. I like to avoid them for a week or two, so that my craving is built-up, and then get one with avocado on wheat and the drool combined with the veganaise makes for a wonderful liquid combination. I've probably turned you off with that imagery, but trust me, that is one of the best things in this city. I've noticed the bread is better in the morning than later in the day, not quite sure if they are storing their bread right or staleness really sets in that fast. I find bread consistency to be vital in a sub, and they have it pretty much nailed down. The other two subs I get are for when you haven't eaten in 24 hours. They are just a massive explosion of calories and pretty dang accurate representations of Chicken salad and steak-n-cheese. I doubt anyone has actually eaten a steak and cheese without getting food everywhere. That's OK! Sometimes I want to swim in this food, it's that good. More imagery for you, because you asked. Oh! And the breakfast sandwiches are incredible, especially the #2/#3. My advice is call ahead on these guys, as a sub can take 10-15 minutes during rush times. 5/5 star-things.

Wow, wow and... WOW!! First of all, I don't know how I missed this food cart for so many years. On the other hand, I am so glad I discovered it this week. I have been there everyday this week and the vegan subs are the very best I've ever had outside of my own kitchen. First, I had their world-famous Steak & Cheese sub. It was a very cold and rainy day in Portland and this wonderfully warm, huge and delicious sub warmed me to my soul. It's their best seller for a reason. Don't miss this one. Being Italian, cold vegan subs are one of my all-time fav meals. DC's cold Italian Sub is not only the very best I have ever had, it was the biggest and most delicious too. The mixture of vegan meats, cheese, veggies and the toasted bun all reminded me of childhood at the local deli. I could eat two of these a day for life. Yesterday, I was at the food cart twice, once for breakfast, once for lunch. The Breakfast Sandwich #2 is their most popular for many reasons. The vegan sausage, which I don't usually care for, was masterfully delicious will all the right flavor. The tofu patty was on point, yummy and dank. That held me until lunch. I then got the Steak & Cheese once more to warm me up from the cold rain. It did the job once again. For the second time, I was so full and very satisfied. I am going back for two Italian Subs today. One for lunch - one for after. It's really that good. So sad they will be on a two-week holiday after today, but I do look forward to being their number one customer when they return. If you love vegan / vegetarian subs, soups and sandwiches (there's also homemade vegan desserts for only two bucks), this is the place for you!!! In closing, I'd like to add how friendly the owners are - even though they are very busy there, they always take time to talk with me. Six stars (out of five) !!'

If God was a vegan, he would certainly dine at DC Veg. This place is like a bit of vegan heaven. You can't (and shouldn't) eat here more than once or twice a week as it's definitely a little too heavy in the "fake" vegan world, however it's worth treating yourself to the burger, chicken sub, or steak and cheese. You will never, ever be happier that great food does exist in the vegan world and you'll want to stand on top of the US Bank Tower and shout it to the world. Even their breakfast sandwiches are simply outstanding. I hope this place grows so I can finally eat here 7 days a week.

I am not vegan, or even vegetarian, but the Italian sub, Steak'n'Cheese are both amazingly delicious and satisfying I was even able to convince my meat-loving coworkers to start eating there. The owners and staff are super friendly and they're very engaged with the community. They often partner up for fundraisers for a variety of causes. Con: prices keep rising; charges a fee to use cards.

Friendly staff and excellent food. I had the Vegan Reuben and the Seitanic Chili, my wife had the Italian Sub. Everything was fantastic, but the chili was off the chart. Highly recommended!
