A coworker told me that she had been checking out British pubs in the city because she was preparing for a trip to England. I thought to myself why I had never thought about looking for a British pub. I am constantly reading all things British. After a hike I stopped by and wow, yes it was absolutely worth it. I absolutely love the Shepard’s pie. I love the ambiance. The bartender was great. I really am looking forward to stopping by again.
The Pig and Whistle is as good a British pub as you can find in the City. The front room where the bar is can get loud, but there is a quiet back room where you can eat, drink and talk if you don't feel like bar energy. The fish and chips were fantastic. The fish was firm but moist and its batter was crispy and delightful. My friend had the Chicken Masala Curry which hit all the right flavor notes. They make a fine Manhattan.
I was taking the long way back from Saragosa and did a flip flop on Geary blvd so I could see my old pal'et from my stompin days, Ol Hybiscuss Trotterdale. She's got a speakeasy there on Geary, so I thought I'd pop in for a pop and spotted The Pig and Whistle right up the street...how convenient, I can grab a quick dinner too. Ol Hybiscuss wasn't in, so I went straight to the Pig and Whistle, I went in for fish and chips but when I saw the beef pie on another table, that was it for me. It was spectacular! ☆☆☆☆☆
