[My husband wrote this review for Trip Advisor, which I totally agree with.]
I first tried Loyal Hound and wrote a review May 23, 2015. I took far too long in going back and wish I had sooner, because today we had a fantastic, perfect meal. The menu is a bit different from our first visit; the wife and I were delighted to try some new items.
While ordering our lunch, our excellent (attentive, friendly, and very menu knowledgable) waiter told us there was one more serving of Escargot, which isn't something I'd expect to see here. I love Escargot; so, we took that last order. A very generous serving of melt in your mouth snails. I hate when I order Escargot that has the texture of rubber bands. Not here! Plenty of crispy crostini to sop up a very flavorful butter and herb sauce. Lovely. We also had the pork cheeks which were served on a waffle (no joke) with an apricot puree. Another winner. The waffle was super fluffy and really did work despite sounding odd. Try it!
I had the Cubano sandwich which I often try when I see this listed on a menu. The version here is superb. The pork (Kyzer) was super moist, had a lovely smoke, and was to die for. I love the Cubano at Dr. Field Goods, but I think this one was a bit better. It came with Gruyère and Avocado Pickle Aioli, which really makes it shine and, while I might slightly prefer the good doctors' potato bread over this very tasty, soft bun, everything else about this Cubano is delicious. The pork was over the top. My wife had the fish tostadas, which was also excellent. She loved the spice, how the fish was grilled and the green chili cole slaw added a nice crunch. Highly recommended.
As full as I was, I had to try dessert. The special of the day was a warm local peach soup with sugared blueberries and organic whipped cream. Not too sweet, really unusual and not heavy after all we ate. Very creative!
Service was excellent; the owner was very nice and shared how everything was prepared (I was particularly interested in knowing what kind of wood he used to smoke the pork). We sat outside with our three dogs in their lovely (and cool for summer) patio. So nice; they brought the dogs a bowel of water. We really enjoyed the food, the locals we talked to in the adjoining tables, the staff, and the entire 1.5 hours we leisurely spent at the Loyal Hound. New favorite! We will be going back more often.
Could kick myself for not returning sooner. We will!
Flit was our fist time eating there...everything was wonderful. Our waiter was awesome and the food was to die for...I had a scoop of the best vanilla ice cream I have ever eaten...I will definitely be back
This is my go to place in Santa Fe! The food is amazing and so is the staff! They have a great beer and wine list! The owners are awesome and are super friendly. The Loyalhound is a must!
