I have been going to The El Matador restaurant since 1982. My parents took me there when I was a kid, and now I take my family. This place is not your ordinary restaurant. Starting in 1968, this restaurant has served as kind of a hidden treasure to the Upstate, SC. David and his team is nothing short of culinary genius. The atmosphere is quaint and it feels like home. The salsa is to die for as I know it is not imported or store bought. David grows his own peppers and creates this wonderful taste that I have enjoyed for years. They make everything from scratch. The staff is by far the most courteous I have ever encountered and that is saying a lot in today's times when others treat you as an inconvenience. Try this place, take your family and friends. You'll be glad you did.

Oh my goodness! The best Mexican food ever. The best Chili Rellenos I have ever had on top of the guacamole dip. Great staff and the owner comes out and is very personable with everyone! Highly recommended and my family and I love it!!!!!!

We started visiting this restaurant in the late 80's when we lived in Greenville...hands down, the best Mexican food ever and the sangria...homemade and sooo good! We've never had anything that wasn't awesome! And everyone is super nice and friendly...the service excellent - and the decor so quaint! We've not lived in SC for many years now but every single time we come back, this is the first place we visit! Feels like home!
