The food was excellent, the people very friendly, the kid friendly chalkboard was an awesome feature for our granddaughter, and this is definitely an all around great place for lunch. We grabbed some baked goods to go before we left so we could enjoy later. I highly recommend Kohnen's to anyone looking for a good meal.
We stop by the bakery every time we are in Tehachapi and often make special trips solely to visit this bakery. They're sandwiches are amazing. The Poor Boy is our favorite family meal because it's loaded with meats and cheeses. Their Carrot Cake is the best we've ever had. Delicious Eclairs and delicate Cream Puffs. Amazing Berry Danishes (not sure if it's Boysenberry or Blackberry but it's HEAVEN). Their pies are to-die-for and you will not be disappointed... even if you've decided you don't like a certain kind, try it and I swear you'll change your mind. Calling ahead to get some of your must-have's set aside helps if you're coming from afar so grab a menu on your first trip and mark down what looks good to you for future orders. There is an abundance of seating for an average day but for the busy days the place is packed, and rightfully so. You can't go wrong with Kohnen's.
Bought the peach pie, probably the very best pie we have ever eaten, it was almost too pretty to eat. Of course, the sandwiches are to die for. Can't think of any negatives!
We just happened to stop here while on a motorcycle trip. It had the best food & coffee ever. This is a must stop if you are in the area. It's worth the drive if you are not close by.
First time there and it was awesome. Great place love this place. People behind the counter were very helpful taking our lunch order and then after very helpful on items I wanted to take home. One of the ladies that help us with the bread. I felt she went out of her way to see if there was any sourdough loaves left. She came back with a slight slow and that was most appreciated. She went the extra mile to satisfy a new customer and we will most definitely be coming back here. We found a new place to eat in Tehachapi. 😎🤙
This place was so delicious. We ordered one of the giant Poor Boy sandwiches to go along with a selection of pastries. The sandwich was absolutely loaded with meats and cheeses in delicious bread. As for the pastries, they were so tasty, it's a good thing we don't live nearby, or we would be there too often. Faves were the eclair and pecan roll. Everything was so reasonably priced!
Amazing bakery! We love coming here instead of fast food and whenever someone visits we always bring them here for breakfast or lunch. Sandwiches and everything in the case is delicious. Would definitely recommend stopping by and getting yourself a treat and sandwich.
Adorable, clean and friendly mom and pop German bakery and deli. We drive out here from Lancaster whenever we visit my in-laws. I usually get their tuna salad with German Veggies. Their soups are always piping hot and delicious. And don't get me started on the pastries. I would buy one of each if I could stuff that much in my belly. I one bought a wooden kitchen sign here that sums it up perfectly: "I ate my willpower.". My photo shows a half eaten salad ( I was hungry )
Went there to pick up a sandwich for a road trip, didn't expect to find this gem of a shop, all decorated with a german theme, plenty of German souvenirs, shirts, beer steins and some specialty food items.
Oh yeah, about that sandwich for the road, they had a variety of fresh bread, meat and vegetable options and sauerkraut to build your own sandwich, or you can choose from their sandwich menu, make sure to save room for dessert because they also have plenty of pastries, fresh pies.
I left with a pie, strudel, 2 loaves of fresh bread, oh yeah, and a hot, Delicious Reuben sandwich, big enough to feed 2 people with a pickle and chips.
My road trip just got better.
Such a great little bakery right next to the railroad tracks in the heart of downtown. The cheesecake and tiramisu were great. My family loved the zucchini walnut bread. A very good selection. Staff is hit and miss, but they're generally very friendly. I always stop here when I visit Tehachapi.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
