This is hands-down, THE BEST Italian restaurant in ABQ. If you crave homestyle comfort Italian food, this is where it's at. The portions are huge and really reasonably priced. And the desserts? Heaven! I'm just glad I managed to snag a chance to eat here before ABQ discovers this little gem and it becomes so popular that reservations will become a requirement.
This place is new and still has a few rough edges but the food both times I ate here was tasty and authentic. Service was also very good. My only complaint about the food is that the lasagna was not heated all the way through and was a little cold in the middle. Otherwise, it was great and pretty close to what my first-generation Italian-American father makes. I also wish they would improve the ambiance a little bit; it is too noisy and the lighting is too bright. The atmosphere is kind of cold and sterile, worthy more of fast food than fine Italian dining. Nonetheless, this place is off to a good start after being in business for just a few months and with a few improvements, it could easily be five star. Gigi is a welcome addition to the restaurant scene in Albuquerque, which unfortunately is still lacking in great, non-chain Italian restaurants.
This was my first time at Gigi's since it's grand opening. And I must say, I need to visit this place more often. The Wedding Soup was savory and seasoned just right without being salty. The Cabonara was probably the best I've ever had. My friends that came with me had the pizza and they said it was probably the best pizza they've had. Over all great food experience!
